In the UK bottled-water market, Actiph Water has carved out a distinctive niche. Founded by adventure athlete and multiple Guinness World Records holder Jamie Douglas‑Hamilton after his 4,200-mile row from Australia to Africa. Actiph launched Europe’s first alkaline-ionised water brand in 2017.

What is Actiph?
Actiph offers high-pH hydration for active lifestyles, while embracing sustainability and ethical practices.
Actiph Water’s product proposition centres around spring water sourced from Shropshire. Which is then enhanced with a blend of electrolytes (potassium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium sulphate) and ionised to a pH of 9+. Creating a “smoother, softer and cleaner” drinking experience

Beyond the functional claim of alkaline water, what stands out is this brand is their commitment to responsibility. Sustainability, environmental impact, packaging innovation and community make up the heart and soul of flows through Actiphs ethos.
Sustainability and packaging strategy
Actiph commits to a climate-positive ambition, with plastic bottles being made with 30% recycled plastic. They are also BPA-free and all products are produced in 100% recyclable packaging.
Furthermore, they partner with the environmental organisation Ecologi to help offset employee carbon footprints, plant trees via reforestation projects and fund climate initiatives globally.
These moves place Actiph Water ahead of many bottled-water competitors. When it comes to ethical and environmental ratings, the independent site The Good Shopping Guide ranks Actiph among the leading brands in the “ethical bottled water” category. Thanks to its performance in environment, animal welfare and other ethical metrics.
As well as this, in a report by Packaging World on tethered closures, Actiph adopted a sports-cap design (the “Rocket” closure by Aptar). This design is robust for active use and meets sustainability regulatory trends. Notably the European Single-Use Plastics (SUP) directive requiring closures to remain attached to bottles so they are collected and recycled together.
This shows that the brand considers not only what the bottle holds, but also how it is packaged, used and ultimately recycled.
Actiph Water also engages with sporting and community events in ways that align with its values. For example, in its partnership with the 2022 World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, Actiph acted as the official water supplier and committed to planting 1,000 trees as part of a “tree-per-case” initiative and to provide comprehensive recycling facilities on-site during the event. Illustrating how the brand leverages major events not just for visibility, but to amplify its sustainability message.

What about the rest?
Despite the proven success of companies like Actiph in their sustainable packaging initiatives, in the wider industry, there are still questions. Both regarding the packaging itself and whether alkaline water offers significant health benefits over standard drinking water.
Actiph Water dispels these queries in their own strength of identity, purpose and product. Standing out as a UK brand that combines a performance-oriented product with a credible sustainability strategy. For consumers who care both about hydration and environmental impact, Actiph presents an appealing option. As the brand grows with plans to expand internationally in the Middle East and Asia by securing additional funding. They possess an opportunity to set an example for how growth does not mean sacrificing responsibility or quality.
